Seriously, like, you wouldn’t believe what has been happening. I mean, it’s not all that dramatic or anything but the fact that these things typically happen to someone else perhaps has made it a tad bit more worthy of an opening statement such as ‘Like, you wouldn’t believe what happened!’
It started out small, as these things usually start out as. You get a knock on the door by slighly frantic building management people trying to explain to you in mandarin and then extremely broken english that the previous owners of your apartment did a really shoddy job in the piping and therefore when you use the kitchen sink and bath, the water collects somewhere and because it’s winter it’s all frozen and causes massive floods in other units.
Then they tell you that you can’t use the aforementioned kitchen sink and bath until it gets fixed and it’ll probably take 5 days. And there came the very first WTF moment. ‘What do you mean we can’t use the bath?’
As if being told you can’t take a shower in your own house for an extended period of time is bad enough, their disorganizational skills prove even more apparent when they say that during the time they want to fix the piping, you unfortunately can’t use the toilet as well.
So we said f*** it, we’re not letting you fix it. The timing isn’t right anyway. We’re going to be intermittently in and out of the country so please don’t screw up the toilet even more. Besides, it’s getting warmer and by the time our extensive travels over chinese new year came to an end, the weather was more agreeable and water didn’t freeze anymore.
Long story short, they still insisted on fixing it and since we were going to Taipei for 5 days we said ok, do it then. They did and we find out that somebody accidentally hit a water pipe, pipe burst and the entire apartment flooded. And then came the MAJOR WTF moment because it meant the apartment was no longer livable.
Came back from Taipei with no home and finding some things ruined by incompetence. Lived with a friend who had 5 cats of their own (loves!) for about a week and now we’re living in a serviced apartment which is turning out to be quite nice actually because there’s a free gym and sauna and cleaning services 6 days a week. Oh and I really love the tiles in the bathroom.
They’re so pur-dy, these tiles. Oh and the major plus point of this place is that it’s pet friendly! So Mango and Cookie are welcome and they’re settling in very nicely.
Mango loves chilling with me especially when I’m using my computer. Usually I’m on the couch with my laptop on my stomache and when Mango inserts herself between it and me, I can’t see what I’m doing. So this way, I get to read and write coherent sentences and Mango is comfortable. Win – win FTW!
