Ok I’ve embarked on something which I didn’t think I’d end up doing but I did anyway. I took 2 months off work (without pay no less) to finally give myself a break because waking up every morning hating what I do was getting too illogical. It’s scary because you never know what it’ll be like getting back to the grind but I reckon it’s scarier not doing it never knowing if this could be what it takes to get your life the way you want it to be.

I’ve also embarked on something of a more personal rather than professional journey and am taking my sabbatical in Beijing. The place I swore I’d never go back to again (read previous post here for the reason why). It’s definitely not as bad as how it was 10 yrs ago when I was here mainly due to SARS and the Olympics hitting the country. Also I’m not rushing around following some flag wielding tour guide showing us the ‘must see’ sites around these parts.

I’m taking my time taking in the environment and possibly trying to find mandarin classes to stop the embarrassment that comes with seeing ang mohs converse proficiently with the locals while I, a chinese, can not.

One thing I can do just as well as the locals is eat. And eat I do. What is a visit to Peking without eating.. Peking Duck!

They even have duck chopstick holders. Quack quack.

I don’t really remember what it is I’m actually supposed to do but this seemed like a logical way to wrap up my duck plus I used everything that they gave me. Kinda like a SPM lab exam cept, well, it’s not.

All that mattered was that it tastest super yummy and we were so full we had to walk it off before hopping into a cab home. Thank god the weather isn’t humid so it was a comfortable walk minus our groaning bellies.

BURP.
